Here we sit at the start of a fresh year. 2020. It has been on my mind lately to get back to the simplistic way of thinking about keto and the lifestyle.  So, I am sharing with you all my thoughts.

First we need to think about what sugar does to our bodies. NO… not the thousands of bad things it causes, but the simple thing it does. ENERGY.

Sugar provides our body with energy. We can debate for hours on if this is a good or bad thing but let’s think simple.

So, we need energy to survive.

SURVIVE:

  • work day

  • meetings

  • school pick-up

  • grocery shopping

  • house cleaning

  • conversations with others

  • cooking

  • eating

  • sleeping

We need energy to run our bodies to achieve what we need to accomplish in our lives. Sugar from our food provides us with energy, but what if we no longer give our body sugar? Now what?

No problem. That is where fat comes in.  Lowering our sugar and carbohydrates while increasing healthy fats (see list of options below) we can run our energy off of ketones.

*Ketones can fuel our bodies just like glucose, in fact, some doctors actually admit that our brains prefer to run on ketones.

After years and years of feeding our body excess sugar, our cells actually start having resistance to glucose energy. This is called insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is why you feel tired all day long. Stop accepting that your lethargy is normal. It is not. Your body is protecting itself from a toxin. SUGAR.

Yep, your body views sugar as a toxic chemical. After prolonged exposure, the cells start saying NO. This is a good thing. Your body is a sophisticated computer. It knows what to do. After your body corrects it’s resistance to insulin, it will tap into the fat storage for fuel. You know the one… the storage you have on your belly, legs and face. Your body loves to used that for energy.

So, to sum up the very basic… Your body needs energy. Two sources of energy available; sugar or body fat. GLUCOSE OR KETONES.

You can decide. Your body will never view ketones as a toxin.
