This is a frequent question I see all over Keto forums on Facebook. I see people asking if they should buy this or that to help them with their keto lifestyle.  I see ads promising to help them get into ketosis with powders, additives, pills and strips. This is simply not necessary for your keto journey. Let me break it down.

EXOGENOUS KETONES –

Your body will produce ketones with the absence of carbohydrates and sugar. Period. Drinking a product with exogenous ketones does not get you into ketosis faster. It’s not about what you put into your mouth. It’s what you leave out of your mouth that makes 100% difference in what fuel your body uses and the ability to “eat off” your stored fat. Isn’t that what we want? You want your body to use what it previously stored. We are in control of how our body runs. There is no additional product that will change or enhance the production of ketones.

KETONE URINE TEST STRIPS –

The ketone test strips can mess up your mindset. It is important to be educated on this test. In the first 2 weeks while your body is starting to produce ketones, it does not understand how to use them yet. So, the test will result in a very high measurement reading of ketones in your urine. That is because you are expelling the ketones. The next few weeks, when your body starts actually using the ketones for fuel, the test strip will show less ketones in your urine. This can confuse some into thinking keto is not working for them, when in fact it is going along perfectly.

KETONE BREATH METER –

There are many signs that you are in ketosis. Your breath is definitely one of them. I promise you that you will not need a breath meter to know if you are in ketosis. The taste of your mouth will change TEMPORARILY. Some say it tastes like metal; some say it tastes sweet. Either way, it is a sign that your body is headed in the right direction. Keep in mind that you will expel more ketones in the beginning until your body starts understanding how to use them. This can take time. You have probably been running on glucose for years. Be patient.

Listen, keep your money for electrolytes, vitamin B1 and good grass fed meats! Your body will know what to do if you stop sugar and carbohydrates, no gimmicks needed.
